Become A Tooth Fairy

Dear West Central District Health Department (WCDHD) Community Friends and Partners,

WCDHD Dental is dedicated to improving the dental care and health of students by offering outreach dental services in the comfort and convenience of schools through Tooth Tour. In 2017-2018, WCDHD provided cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to over 100 North Platte Public Schools (NPPS) students, identifying over 75 students needing follow-up dental care in only one visit to eight schools.  Of the students provided services, 12% were uninsured (self-pay) and 12 students were not seen due to no insurance and cost associated with services.

During the 2016-2017 school year NPPS had approximately 20% of students with more than 5 absences from school, of which, 85% was related to illness.  With 40.6% of the students enrolled in Medicaid or uninsured, and a free and reduced lunch rate of 48%, access to health care due to affordability may be an underlying cause for absenteeism due to illness (2016-2020 Community Health Improvement Planning).

In effort to provide dental care and services to uninsured (self-pay) students in the WCDHD school communities, including schools in Arthur, Hooker, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, and Thomas counties, WCDHD has implemented “Become a Tooth Fairy”. Donations will be used to provide needed dental care and services to Tooth Tour Rockstar student(s) within WCDHD’s school communities.  Your voluntary financial support is requested to ensure the success of Tooth Tour Rockstars.
